QUETTA: The Judicial Magistrate Quetta has issued an arrest warrant for Mehmood Khan Achakzai, the Chairman of Pashtunkhawa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP). The warrant comes in connection with FIR No. 43 of 2024 registered at Gwalmandi police station Quetta.
Mehmood Khan Achakzai, who recently emerged as the presidential candidate of Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf (PTI), faced the scrutiny of the district administration when his residence was raided earlier March this year. Although he was not present during the raid, the district administration proceeded to register a case against him under Sections 447 and 448-34, pertaining to interference and seizure.
Subsequently, the Judicial Magistrate issued a warrant for Achakzai’s arrest due to his non-appearance before the authorities. The police have been directed to apprehend Mehmood Khan Achakzai and present him before the court by April 27.
The Quetta Bar Association (QBA) has condemned the registration of case against Mr. Achakzai and termed it a political victimization. The PKAMP has also criticized the police and government for what it called rulers’ tactics to silence Mr. Achakzai. “The party would continue its democratic struggle despite all odds”, the PKMAP statement stated.
