Syed Ali Shah: QUETTA: Governor Balochistan Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail emphasized the critical need for enhanced federal assistance to bolster higher education institutions across the province. In a recent meeting with Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman of the Higher Education Commission, the Governor highlighted the shared responsibility in ensuring the provision of quality education, particularly in addressing financial hurdles and aiding underprivileged communities in remote areas.
During the discussion at the Governor’s House in Quetta, Governor Mandokhail stressed the necessity of immediate financial solutions to prevent potential challenges facing government universities in Balochistan. He underlined the importance of a special package from the federal government to equip students with higher education opportunities.
Governor Mandokhail lauded Prime Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif’s declaration of an educational emergency in Pakistan, emphasizing its wisdom and the commitment to providing education to financially disadvantaged children. He emphasized the need for modern skill development alongside traditional education, advocating for the establishment of functional technical institutes offering IT courses at the college level.
Acknowledging the necessity of tough decisions and innovative revenue streams, the Governor expressed confidence in steering public sector universities towards self-sufficiency. He also emphasized the significance of research, advocating for its expansion and alignment with practical applications.
The meeting, attended by Principal Secretary Hashim Khan Ghalzai, Vice Chancellor Dr. Khalid Hafeez, and DG Higher Education Dr. Zahoor Ahmed Bazai, underscored the collective effort required to advance higher education in Balochistan. Governor Mandokhail’s remarks underscored the urgent need for collaboration between federal and provincial authorities to address the challenges and opportunities in the education sector.
