QUETTA: Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Asghar Ali Tareen, held a key meeting on Thursday, in the Balochistan Provincial Assembly to address approximately Rs19 billion in unspent funds allocated for development projects. The meeting involved discussions with various Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of Balochistan about the stagnant funds, as highlighted in the 2022-23 audit report.

PAC members, including Zabit Ali Riki, Fazal Qadir Mandukhel, Senior Member Board of Revenue (SMBR) Qamber Dashti, Director General Audit Shuja Ali, and Additional Secretary PAC Siraj Lehri, reviewed the financial details in the committee room.

The audit report revealed that funds meant for projects across the province had been lying unused in the accounts of 10 Deputy Commissioners, raising concerns over financial efficiency and project implementation.

The committee directed all concerned DCs to submit detailed reports on the unspent funds, emphasizing accountability and efficient resource management. Senior Member Board of Revenue Qamber Dashti stated that the PAC aims to ensure that allocated funds are effectively used for public welfare rather than remaining dormant.

The Public Accounts Committee plans to continue monitoring these funds to promote transparency and expedite development in Balochistan, fostering improved public services and infrastructure across the region.
