QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti has pledged to root out anti-state ideologies from universities, stating that organized groups are instigating such sentiments among students. “This critical situation must be addressed immediately,” he emphasized during a meeting with Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr. Mukhtiar Ahmed.

The discussion, which included provincial ministers Rahila Hameed Khan Durrani, Mir Sadiq Umrani, Bakht Mohammad Kakar, and MPA Asghar Tareen, focused on reforming the Balochistan Universities Act and tackling governance and quality issues in higher education.

CM Bugti announced plans to hold a national conference involving chief ministers from all provinces and vice-chancellors to address these challenges. He also stressed that there would be no room for political interference or blackmailing in universities. “If we provide resources to universities, we have the right to demand accountability,” he stated.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the need to halt unnecessary construction projects and recruitments, given the financial constraints of universities. Welcoming the HEC’s suggestions, he expressed optimism for collaborative reforms to improve the education sector in Balochistan.
