Syed Ali Shah:

Quetta: Out of 300 faculty members sent abroad for advanced studies from Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS), Sardar Bahadur Khan Women’s University, and Balochistan University, 50 have failed to return to Pakistan and are believed to have settled in foreign countries, according to sources in the Balochistan Higher Education Department.

These faculty members were part of government-sponsored programs aimed at enhancing the academic capacity of local universities. However, their disappearance in European countries has raised serious concerns about the misuse of public funds.

A senior official from BUITEMS remarked, “The government of Pakistan invested heavily in their education and travel, but it is unfortunate that some have not returned to contribute to our institutions and teach our students.”

This situation has sparked frustration among remaining faculty and students, who worry about the impact on the quality of education in Balochistan. “This is a major set back for our education system”, he mentioned.

Authorities are now reviewing scholarship policies to ensure stricter compliance and accountability for future candidates.
