CHAGHI: Levies forces have intensified their crackdown on poppy cultivation in the Pak-Afghan border area of Barab Chah, successfully destroying 16 acres of the illegal crop in just one week.
In the latest operation, six acres of poppy were destroyed using tractors. This follows a similar operation in Klug Mundo yesterday, where 10 acres of poppy fields were eradicated.
Commissioner Quetta, Hamza Shafqaat speaking about the operation, stated, “The cultivation of poppy not only violates the law but also poses a threat to our society by fueling the drug trade. We are committed to taking strict action against such activities and ensuring the eradication of opium cultivation across the region.”
Authorities have issued warnings to landlords, urging them to refrain from cultivating poppy. Strict legal measures are being enforced across all areas of the district to deter such practices.
The Levies’ ongoing efforts reflect the government’s firm stance against drug production, aiming to curb illegal activities and promote a safer, drug-free environment.
This targeted action highlights the importance of maintaining vigilance in border areas to counter the challenges posed by opium cultivation.
