The University of Balochistan’s (UoB) Academic Staff Association has expressed deep concern over the delay in disbursing December salaries and pensions to university staff and faculty, even after ten days into the new year.
In a joint statement, President Professor Dr. Kaleemullah Bareech, Vice President Dr. Shabbir Ahmed Shahwani, General Secretary Fareed Khan Achakzai, Joint Secretary Madam Zahra Mulgani, Press Secretary Rehmatullah Achakzai, Finance Secretary Professor Dr. Sahibzada Baz Muhammad Kakar, and Executive Members Arbab Raza Kasi, Madam Farhana Umar Magsi, Dr. Muhibullah Kakar, Dr. Gul Muhammad, and Masood Mandokhail criticized the recurring delays in salary disbursement.
“It has become a norm for university staff to spend an entire month protesting just to receive one month’s salary,” the statement read. They emphasized that the delay is causing significant distress among employees, affecting their ability to focus on teaching and research.
The association urged the Minister of Education and Minister of Finance to ensure the timely release of funds to the University of Balochistan as per the clear directives of Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti. They highlighted the need for a sustainable solution to prevent such delays in the future, stressing that timely payments are crucial for maintaining academic standards and staff morale.
The association’s leadership also warned that further delays could lead to intensified protests, potentially disrupting the university’s operations. They called for immediate action to resolve the financial crisis and ensure the smooth functioning of the institution.
