Rescue workers clearing one of the national highways in Balochistan

Sardar Muhammad Khondai, Nafi Kakar, News Desk:

Quetta, January 18: Balochistan has been blanketed with heavy snowfall, as predicted by the Meteorological Department, with key areas including Kozhak Pass, Lak Pass, Kan Mehtarzai, and Mach Kolpur experiencing significant accumulation.

The National Highway Authority (NHA) confirmed that heavy snowfall has affected major routes such as the Quetta-Islamabad and Quetta-Karachi highways, creating challenges for travelers. Kozhak Pass, which connects Pakistan with Afghanistan, has been particularly impacted, with slippery roads and reduced visibility reported.

Agha Inayat, General Manager of the NHA, stated that machinery and staff had been deployed at critical points to clear snow and maintain traffic flow. “Our teams are working round the clock to prevent road closures and ensure the safety of travelers,” he said.

Residents and commuters are advised to exercise extreme caution and avoid unnecessary travel during this period of heavy snowfall. Emergency measures have been implemented across Quetta and surrounding regions to address potential weather-related incidents.

The NHA’s proactive approach, including the placement of snow-clearing machinery and the deployment of additional staff, aims to mitigate disruptions caused by the snowfall. Travelers are urged to stay updated on weather conditions and adhere to safety precautions.

Stay safe and prepared as Balochistan faces this winter challenge.
