QUETTA: Lawmakers in the Balochistan Assembly voiced serious concerns over the worsening security situation in the province, urging the government to take concrete steps to restore peace.

The session, presided over by Speaker Captain (Retd.) Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, saw intense discussions on terrorism, road blockades, and the overall law and order crisis affecting daily life.

Opposition leader Younas Aziz Zehri condemned the recent killings of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leaders in Khuzdar and Turbat, holding the government accountable for its failure to protect citizens. He warned that if the authorities did not take swift action against the perpetrators, his party would stage strong protests.

Minister and MPA Mir Asim Kurd Gailo also raised concerns over frequent highway blockades, stating that such disruptions were making life difficult for the public. “People are suffering because of road closures. We need peace, not more problems,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, MPA Meena Baloch strongly criticized terrorism in Balochistan and called for an uncompromising stance against extremist groups.

She questioned why some people hesitate to denounce terrorist organizations and stressed that solely blaming security forces was not the solution. She also highlighted the alarming trend of Baloch women being targeted, with reports of some being coerced into suicide attacks.

The assembly emphasized the need for a united strategy to combat terrorism and maintain stability in the province. Speaker Achakzai wrapped up the discussion by calling for collective efforts from all stakeholders to ensure lasting peace in Balochistan.
