QUETTA: Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind raised serious concerns about security risks and anti-state rhetoric as the Balochistan National Party’s (BNP) long march preparing to reach Quetta.

Addressing a press conference, he warned that any violation of law, including Section 144 currently in effect across the province, will invite strict legal action.

Shahid Rind stated that BNP leader Dr. Sabeen and party chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal made speeches during the sit-in that were “against the state.”

“Legal proceedings will be initiated against such statements,” he emphasized. He added, “The government is exercising restraint but will respond where necessary.”

He revealed that two rounds of negotiations with the BNP leadership had failed. “BNP was asked to hold their protest in Shahwani Stadium, but they refused,” he said, adding that protests in Quetta’s Red Zone will not be allowed under any circumstances.

“Sardar Akhtar Mengal placed three key demands, one of which was the release of Mahrang Baloch,” said the spokesperson, clarifying that no official meeting between the government and Mahrang Baloch has taken place in jail.

Responding to the ongoing debate around Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), Shahid Rind said, “Everyone knows what BYC is.”

On the issue of Afghan refugees, he said the Balochistan government follows the federal policy, but a detailed verdict from the honorable High Court is awaited.

The Balochistan government continues to hold consultations with other political parties to maintain law and order in the province, Shahid Rind concluded.
