Monitoring Desk:

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Pakistan and India, both nuclear-armed neighbors, have agreed to an immediate and complete ceasefire following days of heightened military tension and deadly cross-border clashes.

Taking to the social media platform X, Trump revealed the breakthrough development, calling it a “positive step toward regional peace.” The announcement came after intense diplomatic backchannel efforts and growing international pressure in the wake of the recent attack on Indian pilgrims, which escalated into heavy exchanges of fire along the border.

“Both nations have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire. This is an important move to save lives and restore peace in South Asia,” Trump wrote in his post.

The recent violence had seen the use of heavy artillery by both sides, resulting in significant civilian casualties and widespread destruction. Dozens of lives were lost, including women and children, as tensions surged between the two historic rivals.

According to diplomatic sources, the ceasefire agreement includes mechanisms to de-escalate future conflicts and restore communication channels between Islamabad and New Delhi.

The announcement has been met with cautious optimism in both countries, with peace activists, analysts, and citizens hoping the agreement will prevent further bloodshed and pave the way for dialogue on longstanding issues.

Observers say the development could mark a turning point in the strained bilateral relationship, provided both sides show restraint and a commitment to peace.
