Quetta – June 13: Chief of Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP) and Member of the National Assembly, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, warned that growing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East — particularly the Iran-Israel conflict — could have grave consequences for Pakistan’s national security and economic stability.
In a press conference held in Quetta, Achakzai, who leads the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party and the Movement for the Protection of the Constitution, criticized what he called the country’s “illegitimate political structure.” He argued that constitutional violations, voter suppression, and government overreach are pushing Pakistan toward crisis.
“Pakistan cannot afford to be dragged into another proxy war,” Achakzai said, drawing comparisons to the political collapse of countries like Libya, Syria, and Iraq.
He cited a recent World Bank report showing that over 45% of Pakistanis now live below the poverty line, while debt servicing and defense expenditures dominate the national budget. He condemned economic mismanagement, systemic corruption, and the lack of judicial accountability, calling it a “toxic mix threatening state survival.”
Achakzai proposed urgent anti-corruption measures, including the confiscation of unexplained assets owned by public officials, civil servants, and judges — a suggestion aimed at repaying Pakistan’s ballooning foreign debt.
He also demanded the release of political prisoners, including former Prime Minister Imran Khan, and announced weekly post-Eid protests to call for a national unity government.
“This government has lost public trust and constitutional legitimacy,” he stated. “The path to political stability and economic recovery lies in rule of law, electoral transparency, and institutional reform.”
Achakzai concluded with a pledge to continue peaceful democratic resistance to defend Pakistan’s sovereignty, democracy, and constitutional rights.
