QUETTA: The Government of Balochistan has amended the Anti-Terrorism Act, granting broader powers to security agencies to combat rising insurgency and safeguard national security. Shahid Rind, the spokesperson clarified that this step was necessary given the evolving landscape of counterterrorism efforts in the province.
The changes were made during a formal session of the Provincial Assembly, where both ruling and opposition parties were present. No objections were raised at the time, a fact the government says reflects consensus on national security priorities.
“The fight against terrorism demands extraordinary legal tools. This is about protecting our citizens and restoring public confidence in law enforcement institutions,” the spokesperson said.
Missing Persons Issue Linked to Legal Reforms
The spokesperson emphasized that the amendments are also aimed at addressing the persistent issue of missing persons in Balochistan. He questioned the sincerity of political parties now opposing the law, asking why they failed to introduce solutions during their own time in power.

With tensions still high in parts of Balochistan, the spokesperson admitted that the law and order situation remains challenging. However, he assured that security agencies are reassessing operational protocols to improve public safety.
