Tianjin :  During the Global Sustainable Transport Forum and the 12th Meeting of Transport Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) held in the northern Chinese city of Tianjin, emphasis was placed on further enhancing transport cooperation between China and Pakistan. On this occasion, Shehbaz Latif Mirza, Director of the Road Transport Department at Pakistan’s Ministry of Communications, stated that ongoing cooperation with China is significantly strengthening people-to-people ties between the two countries.

The exhibition held in Tianjin featured modern models such as wind turbines generating electricity and AI-powered autonomous transport robots, along with the model of Kazakhstan’s Astana Light Rail Transit project, which drew significant attention from international representatives including Mirza.

Mirza remarked that China’s development in the transport sector is an exemplary model for Pakistan. “We are enhancing our cooperation with China in transport, road, rail, energy, and eco-friendly systems to introduce modern, sustainable, and smart transport solutions in both urban and rural areas of Pakistan.”

He described the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as an engine of regional development, noting that the initiative is not only connecting Pakistan and China but is also paving the way for greater economic integration across Central Asia.

Mirza further stated that with Chinese support, improvements in road and air connectivity are boosting international tourism in Pakistan. “Now, daily flights operate from various cities in Pakistan to Chinese cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Urumqi, which is playing a vital role in strengthening people-to-people connectivity.”

Praising China’s eco-friendly, high-tech, and digital transport networks, Mirza emphasized Pakistan’s desire to benefit from these technologies to effectively tackle environmental challenges such as smog and extreme heat.

“We are learning from China and actively working on smart urban and intercity mobility solutions. With China’s support, the future of modern, sustainable, and environmentally friendly transport in Pakistan looks bright,” Mirza added.
