Abdullah Lehri:

A tragic firing incident occurred near Kalat’s Niemurgh Cross, where unidentified gunmen opened fire on a passenger coach traveling from Karachi to Quetta.

According to police sources, the attack resulted in the death of at least three passengers, while seven others sustained injuries. Law enforcement agencies and rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene, shifting the deceased and injured to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Kalat.

Police officials confirmed that the coach was directly targeted by the assailants. “So far, we have received preliminary information, and rescue operations are still underway,” a police spokesperson said. Efforts are ongoing to transfer more injured passengers and any other victims to the hospital.

The motive behind the attack is not yet clear. Security forces have cordoned off the area, and an investigation is underway to identify those involved.

Such incidents highlight ongoing security challenges along highways in Balochistan, particularly on routes connecting Karachi and Quetta.
