MANILA – A devastating fire tore through a residential area in Barangay 93, Tondo, Manila early Wednesday morning, reducing dozens of homes to ashes and forcing hundreds of residents to flee for their lives.

The blaze broke out around 3:53 a.m. at the Victor Lopez Compound on Capulong Street, quickly spreading through tightly packed houses made of light materials. Strong winds and narrow access lanes made it difficult for firefighters to contain the flames, prompting authorities to raise multiple alarm levels.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), at least 30 homes were destroyed, displacing nearly 100 families. Many residents were able to escape with only a few belongings, while others lost everything.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control at around 5:35 a.m., and local officials have set up temporary shelters, including community basketball courts and modular tents, to house those affected.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire and are appealing for humanitarian aid to assist displaced families.
