Chaman, Balochistan – A senior leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), Hafiz Qadir Jan, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Killi Muhammad Hassan Contractor area of Chaman on Thursday, officials confirmed.

According to Levies sources, armed assailants opened fire, killing Hafiz Qadir Jan on the spot. His body was shifted to the hospital by Levies personnel.

Soon after the incident, a large number of JUI-F workers gathered outside the hospital to protest the targeted killing.

Victim Also Served as Polio Team Supervisor

Authorities said that Hafiz Qadir Jan was not only serving as Tehsil Chaman Salar of JUI-F but was also working as a supervisor of polio vaccination teams in the region.

Investigation Underway

Levies officials said that a probe has been launched into the Chaman attack. Security has been tightened in the area to prevent further violence.

The killing of the JUI-F leader has once again raised concerns over targeted killings and rising insecurity in Balochistan’s border town Chaman.
