Quetta: An important meeting was held under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary for Planning & Development, Zahid Saleem, to review preparations for the mega conference on Sustainable Development and Climate Resilience at the Planning and Development Department, Balochistan. The meeting was attended by Secretary Agriculture Noor Ahmed Pirkani, Secretary Environment Ali Akbar Baloch, Secretary Energy Dawood Khan Bazai, Secretary Planning Asif Farrukh, Secretary Implementation Zeeshan Javed, Chief Foreign Aid P&D Batool Asadi, and senior officials from various departments.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the proposed agenda, administrative arrangements, and topics of different sessions, including climate resilience, sustainable development, climate finance, carbon credits, innovation, green technology, and research-driven climate adaptation.
Participants were informed that the opening session of the conference will be held on 8 December 2025 in Islamabad, with the participation of national and international experts, representatives of climate-focused organizations, and development partners.
The conference will feature multiple sessions and panel discussions covering key themes such as climate resilience initiatives in Balochistan, environmental protection measures, climate finance opportunities, carbon credit mechanisms, investment prospects, technological innovation, climate adaptation research, and the role of provincial departments in achieving sustainable development goals.
Addressing the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary Zahid Saleem said that this is an extremely important and mega conference aimed at providing a strong, scientific, and long-term strategy to help Balochistan tackle climate challenges and achieve sustainable development targets. He added that the participation of global institutions, experts, and international donors will create new opportunities for investment, technical assistance, and policy support for the province.
In conclusion, he directed all relevant departments to complete the conference preparations on time and with high standards so that Balochistan can successfully host this significant event.
