Syed Muhammad Qaseem:

In a landmark initiative aimed at empowering women and modernizing urban transport, the first Pink Bus service dedicated exclusively for women has been launched in Quetta. The inauguration, carried out by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, marks a major step towards providing safe, comfortable, and dignified public transport for female commuters across the city.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Minister Bugti said the Pink Bus service is a practical realization of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto’s vision for women’s empowerment. “Following the success of women-focused initiatives such as Pink Scooties, the Pink Bus service now offers women a reliable and secure commuting option,” he stated.

The Pink Bus service complements the ongoing Green Bus network expansion, which now connects Quetta to districts like Pishin, Mastung, and Turbat, enhancing mobility for all citizens. Chief Minister Bugti emphasized that the government is committed to delivering modern, high-quality, and inclusive transport solutions while addressing environmental challenges through the future introduction of electric buses.

Highlighting the broader vision, Bugti said, “Women’s empowerment is the foundation of social progress. Initiatives such as the Pink Bus service, scholarship programs, and developmental strategies are practical steps towards creating opportunities for women and ensuring their safety and dignity in public spaces.”

The Chief Minister also warned extremist elements misleading women, saying, “We are opening doors to education, development, and progress, providing clear alternatives to those who spread fear and violence.”

Authorities expect that the Pink Bus service will significantly improve commuting for women, reduce traffic congestion, and promote sustainable urban transport in Quetta. Citizens have welcomed the launch, calling it a historic and timely step in modernizing the city’s transport system and promoting women’s mobility.

With the Pink Bus initiative, Quetta becomes one of the first cities in Balochistan to introduce a women-only bus service, reflecting the provincial government’s commitment to inclusive infrastructure, safety, and empowerment.
