Staff Reporter:

QUETTA: Train services across Balochistan were brought to a halt on Thursday as Pakistan Railways suspended operations across the province following heightened security concerns.

Officials said the move was taken as a precaution after security alerts, adding that the decision — though inconvenient — was necessary to ensure the safety of passengers and staff.

As part of the suspension, several major routes were affected, including the Jaffar Express operating between Quetta and Peshawar and the Bolan Mail service to Karachi. The Jaffar Express scheduled to arrive from Peshawar to Quetta was also cancelled, while the Chaman-bound passenger train will remain off the tracks for the day.

Passengers who had planned to travel expressed frustration but many acknowledged that safety must come first. Railway authorities advised travelers to stay in touch with official helplines and stations for updates on when services may resume.

Officials said train operations will restart once the security situation stabilises, assuring that passenger safety remains Pakistan Railways’ top priority.
