Syed Muhammad Qaseem:

Quetta: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Balochistan has issued a fresh weather alert after new forecasts indicated the arrival of a strong western weather system likely to bring widespread rain, thunderstorms and snowfall across several districts of the province.

According to PDMA, the system is expected to enter the western parts of the country on the night of December 29, gaining strength by the morning of December 30. The weather pattern may extend to most northern and central regions of Pakistan by December 31, while its effects in higher-altitude areas could continue into January 2026.

Districts likely to be affected

The alert covers multiple districts including:

Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Chagai, Harnai, Barkhan, Sibi, Loralai, Musakhel, Duki, Qila Saifullah, Noshki, Gwadar, Khuzdar, Kalat, Mastung, Kachhi, Washuk, Kharan, Surab, Zhob and Sherani, along with nearby regions.

Authorities warn that rain accompanied by thunderstorms and snowfall in mountainous areas could lead to slippery roads, a drop in temperatures and possible travel disruptions.

Public urged to exercise caution

Director General PDMA, Jahanzeb Khan Goharzei, urged citizens — especially travelers and tourists — to avoid unnecessary movement during the forecast period and to follow safety advisories.

He emphasized that farmers and residents in vulnerable areas should stay at safe locations during heavy rain, strong winds or snowfall, and remain alert to official updates.

Meanwhile, district administrations and line departments across the province have been instructed to remain on high alert and ensure preparedness to respond to any emergency situation.
