Quetta, March 16: A high-level meeting on the security situation in Balochistan was held in Quetta on Monday, chaired jointly by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti.

Senior officials from federal and provincial institutions attended the session and presented detailed briefings on key matters, including the law and order situation, the repatriation of Afghan refugees, and ongoing efforts to curb hawala and hundi networks, extortion, and smuggling.

During the meeting, heads of major federal agencies briefed participants on their respective areas of responsibility and the measures being taken to strengthen enforcement and coordination in the province.

The meeting decided to seek the services of the Federal Constabulary to help maintain peace and stability in Balochistan. In the first phase, two wings of the force, comprising nearly 3,000 personnel, will be deployed in different areas of the province.

Participants also agreed to further strengthen the role of the Federal Investigation Agency in Balochistan. It was decided that vacant positions in the agency would be filled, with preference given to local candidates.

Both the federal and provincial governments agreed to improve monitoring of anti-state activities on social media. The meeting decided to intensify action against individuals involved in spreading false propaganda against the state through online platforms.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi assured the provincial government of full cooperation from the federal government, stating that every possible step would be taken to enhance the professional capacity of Balochistan Police and strengthen the province’s security framework.

He said the federal government was fully aware of the challenges faced by Balochistan and would continue to support efforts aimed at maintaining peace and stability.

Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti reaffirmed the provincial government’s resolve to eliminate terrorism. He said the fight against terrorism was not limited to security forces alone but required the collective effort of the entire nation.

Bugti added that his government had made it clear from the first day that the writ of the state would be ensured under all circumstances. He noted that highways in Balochistan were no longer being blocked in the name of protests, reflecting improved administrative control.

The chief minister also appreciated the federal government’s support for restoring peace in the province. Both leaders expressed confidence that terrorism could be defeated through national unity and coordinated efforts between federal and provincial authorities.
