Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan will remain unchanged, providing significant relief to citizens amid rising inflation.
In a national address, the Prime Minister revealed that a proposal to increase petrol prices by PKR 95 per liter and diesel by PKR 203 per liter was presented to him, but he rejected it in the public’s interest. He stated that the government has decided to bear an additional financial burden of PKR 56 billion this week to avoid passing the increase on to consumers.
He further explained that based on global oil prices, petrol should have been priced at PKR 544 per liter and diesel at PKR 790 per liter. However, the government is currently supplying petrol at PKR 322 per liter and diesel at PKR 335 per liter.
The Prime Minister emphasized that protecting citizens from economic hardship remains his top priority. He noted that fuel prices have nearly doubled worldwide, but the government is actively shielding the public from the full impact of global inflation.
Addressing regional affairs, PM Shehbaz Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to maintain peace and stability. He stated that Pakistan is actively engaged on multiple fronts to prevent conflict in the region, including continuous communication with Iran and Gulf countries.
