News Desk: A high-profile Gwadar Grand Jirga in Gwadar brought together top civil and military leadership, tribal elders, and key stakeholders to advance peace, stability, and fast-track development across Balochistan.

The jirga was attended by Governor Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, senior military officials including the Corps Commander Quetta, and the GOC Gwadar. A large number of tribal elders, elected representatives, district officials, security personnel, business leaders, fishermen, and civil society members also participated.

Peace, Public Participation, and Inclusive Growth

Addressing the gathering, Governor Mandokhail emphasized that Balochistan’s sustainable development depends on public participation, tribal harmony, and consistent governance policies. He stated that institutions are actively working to ensure that Gwadar’s development benefits reach local communities, with a focus on empowering youth, women, and the fishing sector.

Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti highlighted that the provincial government is accelerating development projects across Balochistan, with Gwadar as a top priority. He stressed the need to engage Baloch youth through education and positive opportunities, noting that steering them away from conflict is essential for long-term peace.

He further underlined that public cooperation with security forces is critical for the success of Gwadar Port and mega development initiatives, including infrastructure, water supply, education, and healthcare projects aimed at improving living standards.

Security, CPEC, and Regional Stability

The Corps Commander Quetta reaffirmed that security forces are taking robust measures to ensure peace and protect development projects, particularly in Gwadar and the Makran Division. He stated that maintaining a secure environment is vital for the uninterrupted progress of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, a key driver of regional connectivity and economic growth.

He emphasized that trust and cooperation between the public and security institutions remain the foundation of lasting peace in Balochistan.

Participants discussed Gwadar’s transformation into a major tourism hub, highlighting its strategic coastal location and economic potential. The jirga also stressed the importance of the traditional dispute resolution system, agreeing that local conflicts should be resolved through dialogue to strengthen social cohesion and stability.

Martyrs Honored in Gwadar

The Governor and Chief Minister listened to public concerns and assured participants that legitimate demands would be addressed on a priority basis, reinforcing confidence in government-led development efforts.

On the sidelines of the jirga, the leadership inaugurated a memorial for Police Constable Muhammad Khamari Baloch, who was martyred in a terrorist attack in Gwadar on May 11, 2025, paying tribute to his sacrifice for peace and security.

The jirga concluded with a strong consensus to enhance cooperation between government, security forces, and citizens to ensure peace, prosperity, and sustainable development. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to transforming Gwadar into a peaceful, modern, and globally recognized economic hub.
