Islamabad: A high-level committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has decided to introduce stricter regulations to improve the standard of medical and dental education in Pakistan.

During a key meeting held on Tuesday, the committee reviewed the approval process for medical and dental colleges as well as reforms related to postgraduate medical degrees. Officials agreed that inspections of all institutions would be conducted under a transparent, merit-based, and strict monitoring system to ensure compliance with international standards.

The committee emphasized that no negligence, irregularities, or violations would be tolerated in the accreditation and functioning of medical and dental institutions across the country.

Important decisions were also made regarding Pakistani students planning to pursue MBBS or BDS degrees abroad. Under the new policy, students will be required to register with PM&DC and pass the MDCAT examination before seeking admission to foreign medical or dental universities.

Authorities also directed students to verify that their selected foreign institutions are officially recognized. Furthermore, graduates returning to Pakistan will have to clear the national licensing examination to obtain professional registration for medical practice.

The government stated that these reforms are aimed at protecting students’ futures, improving healthcare education quality, and aligning Pakistan’s medical education system with global standards.
