By Web Desk: The Government of Balochistan has announced a 90-day ban on the transportation, transfer, and distribution of timber and other forest products across the province, intensifying efforts to combat illegal logging and timber smuggling while safeguarding the region’s forest resources.
The restriction, imposed under Section 144, came into force immediately and will remain effective in all districts of Balochistan, according to an official notification issued by the provincial Home Department.
Additional Chief Secretary Home Muhammad Hamza Shafqat said the move was aimed at preventing the illegal harvesting and movement of timber, which has posed a growing threat to the province’s forests and ecological balance. He added that the temporary ban would help authorities strengthen forest conservation measures and promote the sustainable use of natural resources.
Under the order, the transportation of all forms of timber, wood logs, and other forest products has been prohibited for the next three months. District administrations, police, the Frontier Corps, and other law enforcement agencies have been authorized to stop and seize any vehicle, truck, or trailer found carrying timber in violation of the ban.
Officials warned that strict legal action would be taken against violators under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code and other applicable laws. The Home Department also clarified that no permits, passes, or previous authorizations would be considered valid for the release of vehicles carrying timber during the ban period.
The government, however, may allow exemptions in extraordinary cases involving public interest or essential government needs. Such exemptions will require prior written approval from the Home Department after a formal request is submitted by the relevant administrative authority.
The provincial government has directed all district administrations and law enforcement agencies to ensure strict enforcement of the ban, emphasizing that the measure is crucial for forest protection in Balochistan, preventing illegal timber smuggling, and preserving the province’s natural resources for future generations.
