QUETTA: Former National Assembly Speaker and senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Qaiser strongly criticised the federal government during a press conference at the party’s office in Quetta, accusing it of failing to address the challenges faced by the people, particularly in Balochistan.
Qaiser claimed there was “no visible writ of the government” in the province, alleging that major highways remain blocked while citizens continue to face insecurity. He said the prevailing law and order situation reflected the government’s inability to ensure public safety and restore normalcy.
Questioning the legitimacy of the current political system, Qaiser alleged that those sitting in the National Assembly were not the true representatives of the people. He claimed that candidates who had genuinely won the general elections were prevented from taking their seats in Parliament.
The PTI leader called for the immediate reopening of all trade routes with neighbouring countries, arguing that cross-border trade would create employment opportunities and improve the economic conditions of people in Balochistan.
Qaiser also criticised the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), accusing former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of failing to uphold the sanctity of the vote. He alleged that the public mandate had been undermined instead of being respected.
Demanding the release of all political prisoners, Qaiser said PTI would continue its struggle until all detained political workers across the country were freed. He added that the party was determined to work alongside other political forces to protect democratic rights, strengthen the Constitution, and ensure the supremacy of the people’s mandate.
