By Our Correspondent: Tribal violence claimed eight lives, including that of a young girl, in two separate incidents in Balochistan on Sunday, with deadly clashes reported in Qila Abdullah and Dera Bugti, officials said.
The most serious incident occurred in Killi Badawan of Qila Abdullah, where armed attackers ambushed members of a rival tribe, killing four men on the spot. A young girl, who was caught in the gunfire, later died while undergoing treatment in Quetta.
Police and other law enforcement agencies quickly reached the area, secured the scene, and launched a search operation to trace the attackers.
Initial investigations indicate the attack was linked to a long-standing tribal feud. Officials believe the assault was carried out in retaliation for an earlier conflict between the two tribes, highlighting the continuing cycle of tribal violence in the region.
The killings sparked protests as members of the affected tribe placed the victims’ bodies on the Quetta–Chaman Highway, demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible. Traffic remained suspended for several hours before district authorities negotiated with protesters and restored the flow of vehicles.
In a separate incident in Dera Bugti, four people were killed when two rival groups from the Bugti tribe exchanged heavy gunfire. Police said the confrontation reportedly stemmed from a dispute over a marriage proposal that escalated into an armed clash involving automatic weapons.
Another person was injured in the exchange of fire and was shifted to a district hospital for treatment. Security personnel were deployed to the area to prevent further violence and maintain law and order.
Authorities have launched investigations into both incidents, while security forces continue efforts to arrest those involved and prevent any further escalation of tribal tensions.
