Web Desk: A coal mine worker was killed and four others were injured after unidentified assailants carried out a hand grenade attack on a coal mine in Chaman, Balochistan, on Tuesday, officials said.
According to preliminary reports, the attackers threw a hand grenade at a group of five laborers while they were working inside the mine. The powerful explosion left all five workers critically injured, prompting their immediate transfer to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Hospital authorities confirmed that one of the injured workers later succumbed to his injuries. The deceased was identified as Nasruddin, 38, son of Alam Din, a resident of Kashmore district in Sindh.
The remaining four injured workers are undergoing treatment, while doctors continue to monitor their condition.
Security forces and law enforcement agencies reached the scene soon after the attack and launched an investigation. Authorities have not yet determined the motive behind the assault, and no group has claimed responsibility.
The grenade attack has renewed concerns over the security of coal mine workers in Balochistan, where incidents targeting miners and laborers have occurred in the past. Officials said further investigations are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible.
