QUETTA: A new chapter in women’s education has begun in Balochistan with the establishment of what has been described as Pakistan’s first women’s library in Quetta, dedicated to the lawyers who lost their lives in the August 8, 2016 tragedy.
The library has been established by the Shaheed Baz Muhammad Foundation and renamed in memory of the August 8 lawyers’ martyrs, turning a painful chapter in Quetta’s history into a place focused on education, learning and opportunity.
Speaking to Quetta Voice, foundation chairman Dr. Lal Khan Kakar said the primary objective of establishing the library was to provide women with a dedicated space for education and help open new avenues of learning for them.
“We wanted to create an environment where women can study, prepare for competitive examinations and pursue their educational goals in a peaceful setting,” he said.
The library has quickly become a study hub for dozens of female students from Quetta and surrounding areas. Students can be seen sitting in the neat and well-maintained reading hall, preparing for competitive examinations including MDCAT, PCS and CSS, as well as other academic tests.
For many students, the library offers more than just books and tables. It provides a quiet and supportive environment where they can concentrate on their studies and prepare for examinations without distractions.
Zale Huma, one of the students visiting the library, told Quetta Wise that she regularly comes to the facility to prepare for the MDCAT examination.
She said the library provides a peaceful atmosphere that helps her remain focused on her studies and work toward her future goals.
The establishment of the women’s library in Quetta comes as a significant initiative for female students in Balochistan, where access to dedicated educational spaces remains an important need.
By linking the library’s name with the August 8 martyrs, the Shaheed Baz Muhammad Foundation has also sought to preserve their memory while investing in the education and future of women.
