RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces (COAS & CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, visited the Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF) in Wah and reviewed its production capabilities, export potential and ongoing efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s defence industrial base.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media wing, Field Marshal Asim Munir was briefed on various aspects of POF’s operations and its contribution to the country’s defence needs.
During the visit, the army chief witnessed tests and trials of locally designed and manufactured arms and ammunition. The demonstrations reflected POF’s efforts towards indigenous production, technological development and greater self-reliance in the defence sector.
The Field Marshal was also given a briefing on progress in the corporatisation process following the enactment of the DIPRA Ordinance.
According to ISPR, ongoing efforts are also under way to modernise and upgrade POF’s production facilities. As part of the initiative, two new industrial plants are being installed and are expected to begin production by the end of the current year.
The visit highlighted the military leadership’s focus on expanding indigenous defence production, promoting technological innovation and reducing reliance on external sources for defence-related requirements.
ISPR said the initiatives at POF are aimed at further strengthening Pakistan’s defence industrial capabilities while also enhancing its potential to contribute to defence exports.
