News Desk: Major General Faisal Naseer has been appointed National Coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) for three years, according to a notification issued by Pakistan’s Establishment Division on Friday.
The appointment has been made on a secondment basis with the approval of the federal government and is effective immediately.
Major General Faisal Naseer, currently serving as the Director General of Counterintelligence at Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), will take charge of the NACTA position under Section 9(1) of the NACTA Act, 2013.
The notification stated that the appointment would initially remain in effect for three years and would be governed by the applicable terms and conditions for secondment appointments.
NACTA’s Role in Counterterrorism
Established in 2008 under the Ministry of Interior, NACTA is Pakistan’s key institution for coordinating national counterterrorism and counter-extremism efforts.
The authority develops comprehensive strategies and action plans against terrorism and extremism, coordinates with relevant institutions and monitors the implementation of approved measures.
NACTA also provides reports to the federal government on progress in implementing counterterrorism policies.
The authority previously played a central role in coordinating the implementation of the 20-point National Action Plan (NAP), which was introduced to strengthen Pakistan’s response to terrorism and extremism.
