QUETTA: A case has reportedly been registered against retired police surgeon Dr Ayesha Faiz under the Anti-Terrorism Act following a press conference in which she criticized Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti and the provincial home minister, while police sources claim that the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Balochistan has also taken her into custody.
However, there has been no formal confirmation from the police or the Counter-Terrorism Department regarding Dr Ayesha Faiz’s reported arrest. The exact sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act invoked in the case and other details concerning the alleged arrest have also not been officially disclosed.
According to police sources, the case was registered at a CTD police station in Quetta in connection with remarks made by Dr Ayesha Faiz during a recent press conference at the Quetta Press Club.
During the press conference, the retired police surgeon spoke about the broader political situation in Balochistan, its historical background and developments in the province. She also criticized Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti over his reported statement that orchards in Mastung could be bulldozed in response to future violent incidents.
Dr Ayesha Faiz reportedly condemned the statement and raised questions about the approach toward political and security issues in Balochistan.
