QUETTA: The Jinnah People’s Train Service is set to be launched in Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, introducing a new public transportation facility for residents of the city and surrounding areas.
According to sources within the Balochistan government, more than Rs3 billion has been spent on the launch of the much-awaited People’s Train Service in Quetta. The railway infrastructure for the project has reportedly been completed within just 120 days, paving the way for the launch of the shuttle train service.
The Jinnah People’s Train will operate on a 32-kilometre railway track from Kuchlak to Saryab, with seven stations located along the route. The service will initially consist of two bogies and will have the capacity to carry around 150 passengers at a time.
The project addresses a longstanding demand of the people of Quetta and Balochistan, particularly residents who have been seeking an affordable, reliable and decent mode of public transportation in the provincial capital.
Quetta has faced persistent transportation challenges, with a large number of residents depending on private vehicles, taxis and local buses for daily commuting. The introduction of the Kuchlak-Saryab People’s Train is expected to provide an additional option for students, employees, workers and other daily commuters.
The Balochistan government, led by Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, has presented the project as part of its efforts to improve public facilities and develop transportation infrastructure in Quetta.
Officials and government sources say the completion of the railway track within 120 days reflects the government’s efforts to accelerate development projects and translate public commitments into practical initiatives.
The launch of the Jinnah People’s Train Service in Quetta is expected to mark a new phase in the city’s public transport system. The service will connect Kuchlak, Quetta and Saryab through a dedicated railway route and is aimed at providing commuters with an affordable and convenient transportation facility.
