By Our Correspondent: Cross-border trade between Pakistan and Iran has been disrupted following the temporary closure of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) immigration gate at Taftan, raising concerns among traders over stranded goods and potential financial losses.
Sources said the gate was closed on the directions of senior officials in Islamabad. However, the reasons for the decision remain unknown, and authorities have not issued an official notification explaining the closure.
The unexpected suspension of operations has caused concern among traders, who fear that commercial consignments worth millions of rupees could be stranded at the Pakistan-Iran border.
The closure has affected trade-related movement at Taftan, a key border crossing between the two countries. Traders have expressed concern over the disruption and the difficulties it may cause for businesses dependent on cross-border commerce.
Authorities have yet to issue a formal statement clarifying the reasons for the closure or announcing when the FIA immigration gate will reopen.
The resumption of normal cross-border activities remains uncertain until officials provide further clarification.
