Faizan Aslam Khan:
ISLAMABAD – Chief Minister of Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Friday declared that the battle against terrorism is not the responsibility of a single institution, but a collective war involving the entire state, civil society, police, bureaucracy, politicians, and the judiciary, with the Balochistan Police positioned on the front lines.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony for newly recruited Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) at the National Police Academy (NPA) in Islamabad, the Chief Minister underscored his administration’s commitment to establishing a merit-based, political-pressure-free environment within the provincial police force.
”The provincial government is committed to providing Balochistan Police with modern equipment, quality training, and a transparent environment for postings and transfers,” CM Bugti stated. “Decisions regarding officers’ responsibilities will be made solely on merit by the police leadership itself. Strict adherence to merit is essential to restoring our youth’s confidence in the state.”
Expanding Police Role Across Balochistan
Reflecting on the recent transition declaring the entire province an ‘A-Area’—placing full policing jurisdiction under regular law enforcement—CM Bugti described the shift as both a major responsibility and a strategic opportunity to secure a safer future for coming generations.
”While combating organized crime remains the core function of the police, terrorism has emerged as a significant challenge,” he noted. “Violent groups attempting to fracture Pakistan through bloodshed will not succeed. The Balochistan government and its police force will not step back from this fight.”
He reaffirmed that while the state’s doors remain open to individuals who lay down their arms and renounce violence, those seeking to impose their ideological agenda through force will be met with decisive state authority.
Honors and Recognition
During the ceremony, Commandant of the National Police Academy IGP Saad Bharwana presented the address of welcome. The event was attended by Balochistan Inspector General of Police Muhammad Tahir Khan, along with senior officials from the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP), the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), and participants of the Mid-Career Management Course (MCMC).
Chief Minister Bugti distributed graduation certificates and awards to the passing-out officers. Probationer Officer Quratulain was awarded the prestigious Sword of Honor for outstanding overall performance.
Expressing gratitude to Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and the NPA instructional staff for facilitating high-caliber training, CM Bugti voiced confidence that the graduating officers would uphold the highest standards of bravery, integrity, and public service upon returning to Balochistan.
