Sardar Muhammad Khondai:
KILLA ABDULLAH: Incensed tribesmen blocked the strategic Quetta-Chaman Highway at three separate locations on Sunday, halting trade and passenger traffic following a deadly shooting incident in Killa Abdullah district.
According to police sources, unknown armed militants opened fire on civilians in the Killi Tanga area of Masezai, located in Gulistan tehsil, late Saturday. The gun attack left three people dead and two others severely injured. The attackers fled the scene undetected immediately after the assault.
Following the attack, rescue teams and local authorities shifted the deceased to Masezai Adda and District Headquarter Hospital Jungle Piralizai, while the injured were rushed for emergency medical treatment.
Outraged by the incident, local tribesmen took to the streets on Sunday morning, placing obstacles across the vital trade artery. The blockade resulted in long queues of freight trucks, passenger buses, and private vehicles stranded along the highway.
Protesters accused the authorities of failing to maintain security and demanded immediate measures to apprehend the perpetrators.
“We will not clear the highway or bury our dead until the police arrest the killers,” declared an angry tribal elder protesting at Masezai Adda. “Innocent lives are being lost while the perpetrators walk free without fear of justice.”
Another local protester added:
“Our area has been left at the mercy of armed attackers. We demand an immediate crackdown on these militant elements and guaranteed safety for our people.”
Police and senior district administration officials have reached the protest sites to negotiate with the tribal leaders and restore traffic on the national highway. Investigation into the attack remains underway.
