Senator Hashmi calls for a durable solution to the Afghan issue prior to complete US withdrawal

Staff Reporter :

Patron in Chief of the ruling Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) and seasoned politician Senator Saeed Ahmed Hashmi has called for a durable solution to the Afghan issue prior to the complete withdrawal by the US and NATO troops. “The withdrawal without finding any solution to this long-conflict will have dangerous impacts on the region in general and Pakistan in particular”, Senator Hashmi said in a statement released to the press.

The BAP founder noted that the complete withdrawal of the US and NATO troops would create a huge security vacuum thus endangering the peace of the region. Since the Taliban are not ready to recognize and speak to the Ashraf Ghani government, therefore, a political solution needs to be found to extinguish the flames of fire.

Pakistan faces brunt of Afghan war

He said Pakistan has faced the brunt of Afghan war in terms of human and financial losses and hosted millions of Afghan refugees for last around four decades. Senator Hashmi feared that the civil war in Afghanistan would force the Afghans to take refuge in Pakistan. “This will increase our burden”, he added.

BAP founder mentioned that some elements within the Afghan government were entrusted the task to sabotage the peace process with Taliban and hatch conspiracies against Pakistan to achieve their nefarious designs. This situation is dangerous for Pakistan since the anti Pakistan elements can increase subversive activities here, he added.

Pakistan making efforts to restore peace in Afghanistan

The Senator recalled that Pakistan has always made tireless efforts to restore peace in the impoverished country. Peace in Afghanistan is important for Pakistan, he said. Although, he said despite this all some elements within Afghanistan backed by Indians were trying to create security and peace issues within Pakistan, he said.

In view of the prevailing situation, the federal government should step forward and convene an all parties conference to discuss ways and means to find an amicalbe solution to the prevailing crisis.

The opposition and the government should set aside their differences and advance and promote national agenda, he said. Unity and discipline guarantees success, he concluded.
