First child pornographer convicted in Balochistan

A local court in Quetta has convicted an accused of three years rigorous imprisonment in a child pornography case on Tuesday. The court also convicted another co-accused for sharing the video of the child in the same case for three years.

The Judicial Magistrate Quetta Kaleemullah announced the judgment after completion of the hearing and awarded three years each to both accused with Rs. 45,000 fine.

Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had arrested a levies constable Nizam in Balochistan’s district Musakhail. The uncle of the child, Khabir Khan had filed an application at the Cyber Crime Wing of FIA in Quetta. FIR against the accused was registered on 24, June 2020 and launched investigation.

The co-accused had shared the video with relatives of the child 

The accused Nizam had subjected the child to sexual abuse. However, co-accused Hayatullah Ghori had shared the video of the abuse with relatives of the victim. This prompted the family members of the victim to lodge a case against the accused.

Sources in the FIA said the child’s family had settled the issue with the accused through a tribal jirga at the beginning of  2019. However, the FIA team under the supervision of Additional Directors Faizullah Korejo, Arsalan Manzoor, and Station House Officer (SHO) Abid Ali thoroughly conducted the case and ensured the arrest of the accused.

Sources in the FIA stated the then Deputy Commissioner Musakhail, Munir Kakar had also played an important role in apprehending the Leviesman. “There has to be strict punishment”, Ishaq Nasar Advocate, a senior lawyer said. He however said section 30 of the criminal procedure code needs to be reviewed and amended to make sure severe punishment to the accused involved in child pornography.

Violence against children increased in Balochistan 

In Balochistan, violence against women and children has increased. The former Chief Justice Balochistan High Court (BHC), Mr. Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail had also taken notice of increasing incidents of violence against children in the province. The top judge of the province had directed the sub-ordinate judiciary to make sure timely judgements about violence against children in Balochistan.

“We are currently investigating multiple cases of violence against children”, an official of the FIA told Quetta Voice. He requested anonymity. He however stated that two cases of child pornography were under trial in Balochistan.
