Thousands protest in Gwadar against water shortage, illegal trawling

Thousands of people marched on various roads of Gwadar to protest against the scarcity of water, power outages, and illegal trawling on Thursday. Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman led the emotionally charged protesters.
“Government should end illegal trawling within one month”, the Maulana announced. He warned that the protest would be intensified if the government failed to address the issue of illegal trawling.
The protesters marched through various roads of Gwadar, the country’s port city. The protesters gathered at a chowk and chanted full-throated slogans against the provincial and federal governments.

Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman stated that despite repeated requests and protests, the rulers had not paid any heed to the solution of the issues of the people of Gwadar. “We want resolution of our issues through peaceful means”, he said.
Provision of clean water is a longstanding demand in Gwadar
The provision of clean drinking water and an end to illegal trawling in the Arabian sea are the main demands of the people of the port city. They urged the political parties to raise voice against injustices with the people of Gwadar.
The protesters vowed to continue demonstrations till acceptance of their demands. Activists of various political parties, civil society, and religious groups also participated in the protest demonstration.
