Syed Ali Shah :
QUETTA: Chief Minister Balochistan, Jam Kamal Khan has resigned as the CM of Balochistan. The CM has resigned in the aftermath of a no-confidence motion submitted by the opposition and Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) angry members.
“Yes, I have received the resignation of the CM”, Governor Balochistan Syed Zahoor Agha told Quetta Voice via telephone. He said the resignation of the CM has been accepted.
The Balochistan cabinet members ceased to hold their respective offices, with immediate effect, a notification issued by the Governor’s secretariat said. A total of 11 provincial ministers and 5 advisers to the Chief Minister ceased to hold their offices after the resignation of the Chief Minister, the notification mentioned.
No confidence motion against Jam Kamal
14 members from the ruling BAP, Balochistan National Party (Awami), and a Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf (PTI) had submitted a no-confidence motion against Jam Kamal on October 12. The CM had earlier announced to face the motion in collaboration with the coalition partners.
Serious differences erupted within the ruling party when joint opposition in Balochistan Assembly submitted a no-confidence motion against CM Jam Kamal on September 16. However, the Governor had sent back the motion following a technical fault in the motion.
Political uncertainty impacted governance
More than a month-long political uncertainty severely affected governance in Balochistan, which is already lagging behind other provinces in terms of key social indicators. Four provincial ministers, two advisers of the CM, and parliamentary secretaries had tendered resignations in protest against the CM. People from across the province were coming to the civil secretariat on a daily basis in search of their elected representatives.
Development activities, transfers/postings, and other official proceedings came to standstill following political uncertainty in the province.
Finance Department imposes ban on release of funds
The Balochistan government has imposed a ban on the release of all kinds of funds except the non-development expenditures in the province. A notification was released by the Finance Department government of Balochistan on Sunday night soon after the resignation of the CM.
