Commissioner Mekran briefs a high-level meeting about Gwadar protest

QUETTA: Commissioner Mekran Division, Irfan Shah Gharsheen has briefed a high-level meeting about the ongoing protest in Gwadar on Saturday. The Commissioner informed that the government has accepted all demands of Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman, a local cleric the ongoing protest in the port city.

Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Quddus Bizenjo chaired the meeting, which expressed satisfaction over the overall law and order situation in the province. Chief Secretary Balochistan, Mathar Niaz Rana, Inspector-General of Police Balochistan, Muhammad Tahri Rai, Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Arshad Majeed and other high-level officials participated in the meeting.

Excercise restrain and patience in Gwadar: Bizenjo

The CM asked the concerned departments to exercise retrain and patience in terms of dealing with the protesters in Gwadar. The meeting was told that four rounds of talks were held with protesters in Gwadar by the provincial ministers. In the negotiations, it was decided that action would be taken against illegal trawling by Pakistan Navy, Fisheries Department, and other concerned quarters.

Law enforcers have seized illegal trawlers and imposed fines on their owners to bring an end to illegal trawling in the ocean.

Government committed to improving living standard of the people of Gwadar

Speaking on the occasion, the CM Balochistan stated that the government was committed to improving the living standard of the people of Gwadar and Mekran irrespective of the ongoing protest. He said the government has decided to resume trade with Iran to facilitate the people of the Mekran division.

Mr. Bizenjo directed the officials to expedite the pace of work on the ongoing development projects underway under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in Gwadar and other parts of Balochistan. He said the Southern Balochistan package was being implemented to address the grievances of the people of Mekran and bring them to par with the rest of the country.
