QUETTA: Protesters blocked main Spini Road Quetta against unannounced load shedding on Saturday afternoon. The protesters burnt tires and blocked the road for almost two hours to vent their anger. “We are facing load shedding for 12 to 14 hours”, Muhammad Dawood, one of the protesters claimed.

The protesters were also chanting slogans against the Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESC) for what they called its failure to provide power supply to consumers in the area. Around 200 protesters blocked the road and chanted full-throated slogans against the QESCO and the provincial government.

“Deliberately, consumers are being forced to take to roads”, Mr. Dawood stated. However, QESCO Chief Engineer Karim Jamali when contacted by this scribe said that the company was trying hard to meet the growing power demands of the consumers. He said the company was already facing a shortfall of 1,000 megawatts in Balochistan.

Citizens faced difficulties because of the blockade of roads by the protesters. The officials of the district administration reached the spot of the protest and held successful negotiations. Subsequently, the protesters reopened the road for traffic. People faced difficulties in reaching their destinations as a result of the blockade of road by the protesters.
