The death toll in rains related incidents rose to 127 across Balochistan on Saturday evening as rescue workers found seven more dead bodies. The dead bodies were found in the Noshki, Lasbela, Chaghi, and Zhob districts of Balochistan.
“46 children and 32 women are also among the dead”, Naseer Ahmed Nasar, the Director-General Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said. He said rescue and relief operation was underway in all floods affected parts of Balochistan. Pak Army, Frontier Corps, and the rescue workers from the PDMA rescued thousands of stranded people in the Lasbela and Jhal Magsi districts of Balochistan.
Over 13000 houses damaged
Floods have also damaged over 13,000 mud-walled houses in Quetta, Pishin, Jaffarabad, Khuzdar, Kohlu, Barkhan, Lasbela, and Jhal Magsi districts of Balochistan. “We are trying hard to reach all flood-affected people”, Mr. Nasar said.
Flash floods unleashed by heavy rainfall also caused the suspension of train service between Pakistan and Iran. Floods washed away various portions of railway track between the two countries, an official of the Balochistan Home and Tribal Affairs Department said. He requested anonymity since he was not authorized to speak to the media.
Floods destroyed standing crops on over 2,00000 acres of land in various parts of Balochistan. Torrential rains also destroyed dates crops in the Panjgur district of Balochistan.
Train service between Pakistan and Iran suspended
Once a week, Pakistan operates a goods train to neighboring Iran. Tracks are damaged because of heavy rainfall near Ahmedwal, Dalbandin, Yek Mach, and other parts of Balochistan. “Railway’s technical staff is engaged in the repair of the track”, an official of the Pakistan Railways said.
Quetta-Karachi highway reopened
The National Highway Authority (NHA) claimed to have reopened traffic between Quetta and Karachi highway on Saturday afternoon. Small traffic has been restored on the Quetta-Karachi highway, the Spokesman NHA said in a statement. He said traffic was also restored on all highways linking Balochistan with other provinces and neighboring countries including Afghanistan and Iran.
