QUETTA / GLASGOW — In a concerning turn of events for Pakistani sports, Quetta-born boxer Qudrat Ullah has gone missing in Glasgow shortly before the national team’s scheduled flight home on Sunday.
​While female boxer Fatima Zahra made history by securing Pakistan’s sole medal—a bronze—at the Commonwealth Games, the male boxing squad experienced a disappointing campaign. Following his early elimination, Qudrat Ullah failed to board the team’s return flight to Pakistan.
​Boxing Federation Responds to Missing Athlete Reports
​Addressing the situation, President of the Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF), Colonel (Retd) Nasir Tung, stated that he has no official confirmation regarding the boxer’s current location.
​However, sports sources close to the development confirmed that Qudrat Ullah deliberately avoided the team flight to stay back in the UK.
​”The remaining members of the Pakistan boxing squad have already departed Glasgow and are en route back home,” officials confirmed.
​A Growing Pattern of Pakistani Athletes Disappearing Abroad
​This is not the first time a Pakistani athlete has slipped away during an international tour. During the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, two Pakistani boxers—Suleman Baloch and Nazeerullah Khan—similarly vanished from the team hotel just hours before departure to seek residency.
​Sports authorities in Quetta and Islamabad are facing growing pressure to enforce stricter background checks and security measures to prevent national athletes from disappearing during overseas competitions.
