9 killed in Musakhail as floods cause destruction in Balochistan

Rescue workers recovered 9 dead bodies in Balochistan’s Musakhail district on Monday. Flash floods unleashed by heavy rainfall have caused massive destruction in Lasbela, Killa Abdullah, Khuzdar, Kech, Barkhan, Pishin, Musakhail, and other districts of Balochistan.

“We have recovered 9 dead bodies”, Imran Mandokhail, Assistant Commissioner Musakhail told Daily Quetta Voice. He said torrential rains have caused damage in various parts of the district, considered one of the most backward parts of Balochistan. Videos obtained by this daily show, that parents were carrying their children and running towards safer places after the area was flooded.

 

“Levies rescued a large number of stranded people”

Most parts of the district are flooded after heavy rainfall on Sunday evening. The district administration has made hectic efforts to make sure communication system. “Our levies force has rescued a large number of stranded people”, Mr. Mandokhail said.

26 out of a total of 34 districts of Balochistan have been affected by floods and heavy rainfall. The provincial government has declared an emergency to tackle the situation developed in the aftermath of heavy rainfall in the province.

“We declared an emergency in 26 districts of Balochistan”, Mir Ziaullah Langove, the Home Minister of Balochistan said. Mr. Langove stated that all departments and administration were placed on high alert to tackle the situation.

Crops cultivated on 5,00,000 destroyed

Floods have destroyed standing crops on more than 5,00,000 acres of land in all 26 districts of Balochistan. “Floods washed away my grapes orchard”, Saeed Ali Achakzai, a resident of Machka Killa Abdullah lamented. He said it took him years to grow a grapes orchard. However, within a few minutes floods swept away the entire orchard.

Heavy rainfall has also washed away dams, small bridges, and roads in various parts of Balochistan. Commissioner Kalat Divison, Muhammad Dawood Khilji had urged the heavy transport owners to avoid traveling on the Quetta-Karachi highway because of heavy rainfall. Floods also caused the suspension of road links between Sindh and Balochistan.
