9 more dead bodies found as floods engulfed entire Balochistan

QUETTA: Rescue workers found nine more dead bodies in various parts of Balochistan in floods and rains-related incidents on Sunday. The death toll in rains-related incidents rose to 225 after the recovery of nine dead bodies.

Director General (DG), Provincial Disaster Management Authority, Naseer Ahmed Nasar revealed that 67 children are also among the dead. On Sunday, Naseerabad, Jaffarabad, Sohbat Pur, Quetta and other parts of Balochistan received heavy rainfall.

Cracks appeared in Pat Feeder Canal

Cracks appeared in the Pat Feeder Canal, which left thousands of people homeless in the Naseerabad district of Balochistan. “We demand evacuation rather than food and tents”, Muhammad Asghar, a flood affectee from the district told Daily Quetta Voice via telephone.

A large number of people have taken refuge on the highway linking Balochistan with Sindh province. women and children are also among the affectees. ” So far we have not received any support from the government”, Allah Bakhsh, another aged flood affectee lamented.

Most parts of Balochistan flooded

Most parts of Balochistan including Lasbela, Naseerabad, Jafarabad, Killa Abdullah, Pishin, Barkhan were flooded, which forced people to leave their homes.

Balochistan government had declared an emergency in 26 out of a total of 34 districts of the province to cope with the situation. Continued rainfall has severely affected routine lives, businesses and official activities in Balochistan.

Chief Secretary Balochistan, Abdul Aziz Uqaili chaired an important meeting on Sunday and reviewed the pace of relief and rescue operations across the province. Mr. Uqaili directed the concerned commissioners and deputy commissioners to step up efforts and shift the stranded people to safer places.

XEN C and W Killa Saifullah suspended

The CS also suspended an executive engineer of the communication and works department for his poor performance in Balochistan’s Killa Saifullah district. He warned that the provincial government would take an action against the officials demonstrating negligence in the relief and rescue operations.
