National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA),  Chairman Lt Gen Mohammad Afzal says the authority negotiated the purchase of 700 ventilators which it expects to receive by the end of June this year to improve health facilities in the country.

He said the country currently has around 4,000 ventilators available.

Afzal added that the government is “determined to help our frontline medics”.

Lt Gen Mohammad Afzal has revealed that Pakistan is currently not importing any personal protective equipment (PPE) and everything is being produced in the country.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, he said the government expects to receive 20,000-50,000 N95 masks from organisations across Pakistan. “This way we can save precious foreign reserves,” he added.
