The Balochistan High Court (BHC) on Monday suspended a notification issued by the chancellor/ Governor Balochistan about the dismissal of the Vice Chancellor Lasbela University.
The Governor/ Chancellor sacked four VCs of four public universities of Balochistan on March 21st.
Dr. Dost Muhammad Baloch challenged the notification of Governor
A division bench of the BHC comprising Chief Justice, Mr. Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Mr. Justice Muhammad Amir Nawaz Rana passed this order on a petition filed by Dr. Dost Muhammad Baloch, the VC Lasbela University of Agriculture, Water and Marine Science (LUAWMS).
The impugned notification is suspended till the decision of the petition, the bench ordered.
Petition admitted for regular hearing
In view of the contention raised by the learned counsel of the petitioner, the petition is admitted for regular hearing.
Muhammad Akram Shah Advocate represented the VC Lasbela University during the hearing. Mr. Shah pleaded that as per the Balochistan Universities Act 2022, the Chancellor cannot dismiss the VC prior to the expiry of his tenure without any inquiry. If any VC is found of any misconduct or corruption, the government can form an inquiry committee to probe into the allegations. Only then, if the allegations are proved against the VC, then, he/she can be sacked.
Notices were issued to the Advocate General of Balochistan and other concerned authorities regarding the case. The case was adjourned till April 11.
Governor removed 4 VCs through a notification
The VCs include Dr. Farooq Ahmed Bazai of the Balochistan University of Information Technology Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS), Dr. Shafique ur Rehman, the Vice Chancellor University of Balochistan, Mr. Maqsood, the VC of Loralai University and Dr. Dost Muhammad Baloch, the VC Lasbella Science and Marines University.
Mr. Baloch challenged the Chancellor’s decision and the court suspended the notification in this regard.
