The Balochistan University remains closed as faculty members and employees took to the roads to protest against the non-payment of salaries for the last more than two months. On Thursday, a large number of university employees and faculty members marched on the main Sariab Road to protest against the non-payment of salaries.
“Stubborn attitude of the government, our teachers and employees are deprived of salaries”, Professor Kaleem Bareech, the central office-bearer of the Academic Staff Association said.

The protesters were carrying placards inscribed with slogans criticizing the provincial government for its failure to pay funds to the public universities. Law College University and UoB remained closed for the last three days as faculty members and employees locked all departments to mount pressure on the government to ensure immediate payment of salaries.

“Our employees are deprived of salaries during this sacred month of Ramazan”, Nazeer Ahmed Lehri, another leader of the Academic Staff Association (ASA) lamented. He stated that despite repeated appeals and requests, the provincial government has not paid funds to the universities.
The employees also lashed out at the Vice Chancellor and held him responsible for the financial issues inside the university. The protesters also chanted full-throated slogans against the provincial government and the university administration for their failure to address the financial issues of the university.

“We demand an immediate payment of salaries”, Niamatullah Kakar, a leader of the Balochistan University Employees Union demanded. He said the employees were the worst sufferers of the non-payment of salaries.
The protesters demanded of the Balochistan government to take effective steps to resolve the financial issues of public universities. This protest has come a few days after Governor Balochistan removed four Vice Chancellors of public universities.
